Fonio ist au\u00dferdem trockenheitsresistent, was ihn zu einer wichtigen Nahrungsquelle in Gebieten mit begrenzter Wasserversorgung macht. Er wird h\u00e4ufig in der lokalen K\u00fcche verwendet und kann als Alternative zu Reis oder Couscous verwendet werden.
